An Unlikely Marriage of Artisan Materials
This one of a kind pendant brings together an intriguing collection of artist made components, each with its own distinctive character and texture.
At the center is an artist made raku cabochon by @MakuStudio, featuring an earthy flower motif at its center. Two raku pod cabochons sit above the flower. Each pod has a rounded, crater like form with a molten glass center in a rich, deep magenta tone, adding color and height to the composition.
Nestled between the two pods is a small piece of man made bismuth. Bismuth is prized for its unusual geometric crystal formations and iridescent metallic colors. As the metal cools, it can develop intricate stepped structures, while a thin oxide layer produces flashes of blue, purple, gold, copper, and pink. Its sculptural appearance makes it an especially unexpected choice for jewelry.
Three artisan made clay cabochons shaped like graceful arches complete the upper portion of the pendant, adding warmth, dimension, and another layer of handmade artistry.
At the top, an amethyst Swarovski crystal provides a touch of sparkle and beautifully complements the deeper tones of the raku and bismuth.
Every component in this pendant was made by an artist, making the finished piece a true celebration of handmade creativity. Tiny light gold glass beads are stitched around the edges which bringes the diverse materials together into one cohesive design.
The back is lined with soft, highly durable ultrasuede for a comfortable finish against the skin. The pendant hangs from a 17 inch gold plated chain with a 1 inch expandable toggle clasp.
For the collector of unusual jewelry, this pendant is a wonderful example of what can happen when very different artistic materials come together in one unexpected composition.
